Artificial intelligence is currently finding more and more applications in the business world. Thanks to numerous technologies, it is developing and supporting many areas of the economy. The potential of AI is most often seen in private organizations, but its use is increasingly being considered by public administrations.
According to IDC’s European Tech and Industry Pulse Survey*, currently 30% of public sector organizations in Western Europe say they are using AI-based solutions, and 20% plan to implement artificial intelligence solutions in their daily operations in the near future. In Central and Eastern Europe, only 3% of organizations are using the potential of AI, and 8% plan to implement it by the end of the current year.
Main concerns about artificial intelligence
According to the survey, there is still a majority of public sector organizations worried about implementing AI-based solutions in their operations. The obstacle is no longer the development of the technology, but rather the level of market readiness. Public sector organizations argue their main concern is the financial barrier. This is not the only problem that stands in the way of implementing artificial intelligence solutions. Lack of staff, inadequate training, as well as fear of losing jobs, due to elimination of positions, is also a common obstacle.
The potential of AI in the public sector
Artificial intelligence is finding many applications in public administration. Implementing it can help optimize processes, as well as automate time-consuming employee activities. Below are the most common uses of AI in the public administration sector.

The implementation of solutions based on artificial intelligence is an opportunity for the development of many organizations. The use of AI can certainly help accelerate the digitization of public administration. Importantly, the public sector has a huge amount of data in its resources, so the potential from the use of artificial intelligence can be much greater than in the private sector.
“Public sector organizations in Europe have finally begun to recognize the potential of AI technologies. Although their applications are generally limited to single areas. In the future, we expect to see more widespread use of AI to support the analysis of complex socio-economic processes in the search for new approaches and solutions.”
